The history of Germantown began in 1833 as the hamlet of Pea Ridge. In 1836 it was renamed Germantown, and although there are several stories, most believe the city got its name because the earliest families who settled in the community were of German heritage.

Not your typical suburb, Germantown strives to have the best of everything: schools, shopping, community events, restaurants ,housing - and one of the lowest crime rates in the state. The city works hard at maintaining its beautiful appearance with strict ordinances for businesses regarding signs and displays. Germantown has a big new library, The Germantown Centre for recreation and Germantown Performing Arts Center. The city hosts a number of events each year that attract people from around the country such as the Germantown Charity Horse Show and the Germantown Festival with its simple motto of "Something for Everyone".
