Germantown TN Real Estate

The history of Germantown began in 1833 as the hamlet of Pea Ridge. In 1836 it was renamed Germantown, and although there are several stories, most believe the city got its name because the earliest families who settled in the community were of German heritage.

Not your typical suburb, Germantown strives to have the best of everything: schools, shopping, community events, restaurants ,housing - and one of the lowest crime rates in the state. Add beautiful landscaping, friendly neighbors, and a performing arts facility that rivals any in the country, and you've got a place that people are attracted to.

Change and progress are a priority in this great city, yet the mayor and Germantown's citizens work at protecting the family-oriented feeling that Germantown is so proud of. The mention of Germantown brings a feeling of pride to anyone who lives there. While there has been rapid commercial growth, with leading retail stores such as Williams-Sonoma, The Sharper Image, Ann Taylor and Eddie Bauer serving the area, the main objective is to remain a family town. Germantown's beautiful residential areas are its trademark. With only approximately 36,000 residents, there is a park within close proximity to every home. The city works hard at maintaining its beautiful appearance with strict ordinances for businesses regarding signs and displays. Germantown has a big new library, The Germantown Centre for recreation and Germantown Performing Arts Center. The city hosts a number of events each year that attract people from around the country such as the Germantown Charity Horse Show and the Germantown Festival with its simple motto of "Something for Everyone".
